Sprites and more
For over a century, people have been reporting they thought they saw strange, fleeting lights in the night sky above thunderstorms. And they were right!
But it was not until 1989 that one such flash was captured on video tape before the scientific study of red sprites could begin. And Colorado night skies are one of the best places in the world to watch for sprites, along with a entire “zoo” of other lightning-related creatures (blue jets, elves, halos, gigantic jets, pixies and gnomes.)  Walt will review a quarter century of amazing observations, many obtained right from the eastern edge of Fort Collins.
