Foothills Rotary Bulletin

               Alumni Week!!

Friends,

Tuesday is our Annual Alumni Meeting.  Arrive early and visit with some long-time friends.  If you speak with an alum before Tuesday and they can join us, please let me know so we make sure we have enough tables, chairs and food for everyone.

It was great to hear from our exchange student, Louise Sempala on Tuesday.  What an amazing young lady.  I look forward to hearing more from her.

Our speaker on Tuesday is David Forsyth: A Very Brief History of Manhattan Beach and Lakeside Amusement Park

Between 1895 and 1920 there were more almost 5,000 amusement parks built in the United States.  Most major cities had one or two during that period, but Denver had five.  Manhattan Beach was the second amusement park to open in Denver, just six weeks after Elitch Gardens opened in 1890.  In 1908 Lakeside Amusement Park was the fifth of those amusement parks to open, and it would later become one of less than thirty American amusement parks to reach its 100th anniversary.  This will be a very brief history of more than 100 years of Denver's amusement park history.

The 5440 Fall District Assembly is on October 12 in Cheyenne at the laramie County Community College from 9:00-3:30.  Featured Speaker Marny Eulberg is our End Polio Now Coordinator but she is also a polio survivor & a mostly retired family physician who founded a post-polio clinic in Denver in 1985.  She is a member of the Rotary Club of WheatRidge having served as their club president in 2015-16 and has served as their club secretary ever since.  We welcome you to join us and hear Marny speak at this assembly along with many opportunities for learning, fellowship & fun!  Catch up with old friends and meet new ones!
