Update from the Evening Club:
We have run into some issues with the washer and dryer for Putnam Elementary School. We have all the funds we need however school safety is the top priority for the school district right now. Putnam is at the head of the list given the at-risk population they serve and the old age of the facilities. Putnam will be given a thorough safety evaluation this Summer. In the meantime, the District will not allow Putnam to add a washer/dryer to the school because they do not have a way to provide outside security for the washer room and between the washer room and the school. I offered to raise funds to build secure doors. Putnam proposed this to the District and was shut down until the security assessment is done.
So we hope to move forward later this Summer or Fall once the security issues are resolved but there is a chance it falls through. Our contact at Putnam will be at the Evening Group meeting on May 29th to discuss alternatives and we hope to bring her to the Noon Club for an update in the near future. In addition to the washer/dryer, we are working on the following with Putnam:
· We are hoping to sponsor a leadership course for the 5th graders this Fall that will show them leadership examples and teach them the Rotary 4-way test.
· We are going to set up a Book Trust day every two weeks at the school to help the kids with their reading skills.
· The school is looking to build school pride by providing everyone a Putnam t-shirt.
· We are working to provide school supplies to several of the classes.
Stay tuned for more updates as our work with Putnam evolves.
Cheers,
Scott
