Foothills Rotary Bulletin

Hello Foothills Rotarians,

Happy August!  It's been a fun weekend at the Hargleroad house as Ben got back from RYLA and had great things to say about the experience.  I texted him on Friday to ask him how everything went and he said “My kids were great, and it genuinely gave me hope for the world”.  It was great to hear him say that as I know that is our exact sentiment every time we hear youth speak to our club!   Ben and some of the other JC's are planning on attending our meeting on Tuesday and sharing their experience as JC's.  I didn't have a full appreciation of all that is involved in being a JC.  There is a significant amount of training that occurs prior to being a JC and all of it is done on a volunteer basis.  Because of them volunteering, it keeps the cost dramatically lower.   I'm so grateful for this amazing program and our club's generous support.  Later in the fall we will have some of the participants speak to our club.

Tomorrow our presentation will be from Liam Murphy and an organization called TACT.  TACT stands for Teaching the Autism Community Trades.  I'm really looking forward to learning more about this organization and their work!

Please remember to register for our offsite to the Children's Musuem next Tuesday August 12th. The museum is under construction, but we will get to see the exhibits they are working on.  It's very exciting to have a Children's Muesum in Northern Colorado.  We will be meeting at the Cracker Barrell for lunch at 11 and I want to make sure that we have a good estimate of how many will attend.   We will be limited to 45 for the tour which will start at 12.   Also there is an offsite September 23rd at the Food Bank that requires registration.  If you can register for both at the same time that would be ideal!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!

Colorado Gators

Andrew Mitchell will explain the history and provide a tour of Colorado Gators, the only alligator farm in Colorado.

Colorado Gators, originally a tilapia farm, is now a major tourist destination in the San Louis valley. About twenty miles west of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, our rescue is home to over 300 alligators, caiman, and crocodile. They also take in snakes lizards, turtles and tortoises, as well as birds, well behaved or otherwise
