Foothills Rotary Weekly Bulletin

Remember that the next two weeks we're in the Windsor 1 room, the one closest to the coffee shop at the Marriott.

On October 10th we will be having another social day at the Moot House, so Rich will be asking for signups this week and next. You can also email Rich directly to get on the list. It's $30 this time, and drinks extra.

The numbers from Peach Festival are starting to roll in! We didn't charge for admission, so attendee estimates are based on the general size of the crowd and the number of wristbands we sold. It's looking like about 4500-5000 people, which is outstanding. Initial estimates of the net proceeds indicate that we made decent money this year. Exactly how much will depend on payment of final bills and also on how much needs to be held in reserve for next year. Thank you all who helped make this a wonderful event!

"Con Men and Klansmen: Colorado 100 Years Ago"

Journalist and author Alan Prendergast will discuss his new book GANGBUSTER, a nonfiction account of Denver District Attorney Phil Van Cise's battles against organized crime and the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s. Van Cise was a pioneer in the use of electronic surveillance and virtually the only public official who dared to oppose and investigate the Klan at a time when the group was in the process of taking over state government. He will also talk about the archival research that went into the project and why "the past is a lot closer than we think."
