John Primsky
My family and I are new to Fort Collins. Born and raised in Long Island NY, I quickly learned a strong work ethic from my father who was an electrical contractor. Hard work and independence were the standard. After graduating from college in upstate NY (where I met my wife Sue) I started my career in business with Deloitte & Touche where I earned my MBA, CPA, and did advanced graduate studies in CS/MIS. After “climbing the corporate ladder” for approximately nine years I realized the ladder was on the wrong building and started my own business focused on information systems and financial business consulting. This led to many consulting engagements – the most interesting from 1992-1994 as a consultant to the State of CT in the area of Economic Development. I worked out of the Governor’s office and my primary responsibility was retention of our manufacturing base and out of state recruitment of Fortune 1000 companies to CT.
After another seven years I realized hard work alone (going to work in the dark - coming home in the dark) was not going to get me where I wanted. In the 1990s, I developed a catalog based direct sales business that we eventually took to the internet – this venue morphed into other business, investment, and internet opportunities that continue to keep my attention. The good news, as an internet entrepreneur and business owner, I could choose where to live and after considerable research decided (as many of your already know) that Fort Collins is a wonderful place to live, raise a family, and enjoy the good life. We completed our family move in the 2008.
Sue and I have 4 children – one working, two attending CU Boulder studying economics & business and one in junior high here in Fort Collins. All three of my sons are Eagle Scouts and you are correct in assuming that traditional American values are well represented in my family. In addition to my business interests, I find time to ski, bike, hike, and exercise as well as enjoying with my family the awesome lifestyle here in Northern Colorado.
Over the years, I have served on many volunteer and non-profit boards and believe service to the community is an obligation and responsibility. In the 1990s I started the STAR Foundation raising over $3M in support of people with developmental disabilities. Currently I am on the United Way of Larimer County 2009 Campaign Cabinet and the Board of the ARC of Larimer County. I look forward to serving the Fort Collins community through various volunteer venues including the Foothills Rotary.
