I ended up in Colorado after a journey through many parts of the country. I was born in Michigan, but grew up most of my life in Park City, Utah - where of course I loved to ski! It was a great place to attend school, and I was involved in everything I possibly could be. I lettered in track and music, was in student government and science club, and everything else in between. I was even fortunate enough to do a 2 month exchange in France my sophomore year.
After graduating from Utah State University with a degree in journalism and public relations, I moved to Boston to pursue a job in PR. I wanted to volunteer, so called four different non-profit organizations, and only one returned my call. I didn't know it then, but that would be the moment that would change my career path. I started working for the American Cancer Society after volunteering there for just a few weeks, and wore many different hats while there including being a national trainer for fundraising events, allowing me to travel across the U.S. I wanted to be back closer to family and the mountains so was thrilled when the opportunity arose to transfer to Denver. It was there I met John - truly the kindest person I had ever met! We were married in the fall of 2005 and planned the whole wedding from the road as we were on a several month, multi-state charity walk for another cancer organization that took us through 15 states! I stayed with ACS for 7 years, but after trying the commute from the Fort to Denver for many months, I decided to get a job closer to home. I was grateful to accept the Development Director position at The Food Bank for Larimer County in November, 2005, and truly think it is a wonderful organization. John and I are happy to be settled in northern Colorado with our two pugs (our kids for the moment) and enjoy everything this fine state has to offer including hiking, and camping. We truly can't imagine a better place to be! Contact Heather
