The end is near!  The year of “High Fashion” is about to come to an end.  It is hard to believe, but only one month remains in my term as President.  The Rotary Year has flown by.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience as the club’s President and I have been honored to be given the opportunity to serve the club in this capacity.  Thank you for all of your encouragement and compliments throughout the year.  The amazing membership of this club has taught me so much since I became a member and will continue to inspire me to be a better Rotarian.  Thank you for everyone’s efforts with their committees and keeping the great things the Club does going every year.  We have had a great run of new members and more candidates in the works, so thank you to everyone who invited a guest and to the club for making those guests feel welcome.

Enough about my year.  Bruce has a great year planned and I’m looking forward to supporting him in his efforts.  Bruce, I have a gavel waiting for you!  And some gently used ties and jackets if you need ‘em.

On August 22, 2015, the Rotary Clubs of Fort Collins are proud to present our 5th Peach Festival at Hughes Stadium. The festival continues to grow and we expecting attendees to be greater than 12,000. Bigger, better and more exciting … that is how the festival continues to evolve! This year we will have more peach items, more food, great entertainment and beverage all day long. Peach Margaritas anyone?

Now is the time to step up if you or your business plan on supporting the festival. There are six levels of sponsorship. If you have volunteer time or contributed dollars at any of the sponsorship levels in the past I would ask you to again support the festival in 2015. I will once again lead our Club’s fund raising efforts and would be happy to answer any of your questions. The Sponsorship Agreement Form is here on the website, and I would ask that you pay close attention to the “Sponsorship Deadlines” section on the form.

This year’s beneficiaries will be the Rotary STEM Education Fund.

Your Peach Guy,
John Busby

I’ve lived and worked in Fort Collins for 15 years.  I have a beautiful wife, Sandy, who works at Woodward and two great children.  Kaylee just graduated from Fossil Ridge High School and is leaving for Concordia University, Nebraska in August to play soccer and work on a criminal justice/psychology degree.  My son, Garrett, is a sophomore at Fossil and spends all his time playing either baseball, football or wrestling.

I am a commercial lender with a local bank.  I’ve been on the private side of banking for 16 years and prior to that I was a bank examiner for 10 years with the U. S. Treasury.  Besides attending a lot of kid’s sporting events, Sandy and I camp, bike, and travel.  Garrett and I get to sneak in several fishing or hunting trips every year.  I’ve coached some my kid’s sports teams and I am a member of the Chamber of Commerce Local Legislative Affairs Committee.

I am a Pennsylvania native who came west to attend Colorado College. I started my career as a high school history teacher and cross-country coach, and returned to graduate school to earn an MBA from University of Colorado-Denver. Since then, I served as program director for the Colorado Council for Economic Education, followed by a series of roles at the Colorado School of Mines Foundation where I managed a broad scope of development responsibilities including donor relations, special events, prospect research, campaign planning and major gifts fundraising. In 2012, I joined the PVH and MCR Foundation as senior director where I led reorganization and rebranding initiatives as well as the recent completion of the $6.1 million capital campaign for the UCHealth Cancer Center.

My community activities have included serving as a founding board  member of the Foothills Running and Cycling Club in Golden, CO and as a volunteer with the Golden Civic Foundation. I am a 2008 graduate of Leadership Golden and served on that organizations’ steering committee from 2008-2012. Additionally, I am a 2014 graduate of Leadership Northern Colorado.

I joined Rotary in order to become involved locally and globally in a way that positively impacts a breadth of diverse groups and organizations. With a father who was a commercial airline pilot, I had the opportunity to travel internationally when I was young. From those experiences, I came to deeply value the kind of insights and understanding that comes from getting to know people from other cultures. With this background, I am very interested in Rotary’s international exchange programs as well as its global outreach initiatives.

I enjoy spending time with my husband Art, who is the head cross country coach at Colorado State University, and our two dogs: Sandy, a sassy 13 year-old Welsh Corgi; and Barley, a ridiculously cute 2 year-old Labradoodle. When I’m not working, you will find me on a bike, at the gym, walking the dogs, in the garden, watching House Hunters episodes, between the pages of a good book, or cheering on the CSU Rams.
