Union Pacific BIG BOY & Steam Trains in Colorado
Jul 22, 2014
Steve lee was the Superintendent Heritage operations (the steam program) for Union pacific Railroad for 30 years. He will report on the Union Pacific Heritage Program and the recently acquired Big Boy steam engine (UP 4014) and other steam operation in the area. The modern UP steam operations have been based in Cheyenne since 1960. For the first 21 years, the program encompassed one steam locomotive, the world famous UP 844, often called "the Living Legend." In 1981 we added UP 3985 to the stable, and ever since then, it has been the largest operating steam locomotive in the world.
Now UP 4014 is being added to the fleet, and when it comes out the shop it will take the dual crowns of the largest steam locomotive ever built and the largest operating steam locomotive.
Steve will also talk about UP steam operations in the Greeley, LaSalle, and Ft. Collins areas.

Sagebrush Rebellion - History & Current
Aug 05, 2014
Mr. Pendley will discuss the actions of what he calls “the most lawless administration in the history of the Republic,” the well-intentioned federal laws that have been distorted beyond recognition to the detriment of liberty, property rights, and economic growth, and the way Reagan addressed and resolved similar issues during his era and what he would do today. During the Reagan administration, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy and Minerals of the Department of Interior, where he authored President Reagan's National Minerals Policy and Exclusive Economic Zone proclamation. He has argued cases before the Supreme Court of the United States as well as various federal courts of appeals. He won what Time called a "legal earthquake" when the Supreme Court ruled in his favor in the historic Adarand (equal protection) case on behalf of a Colorado Springs family business. Mr. Pendley is the author of Sagebrush Rebel: Reagan’s Battle with Environmental Extremists and Why It Matters Today. |

New Learning Techniques
Oct 07, 2014
The last five years, we have learned more about how our brains work, than in the former fifty years before that. Although many of us have heard of some of the new scientific breakthroughs, very few of us have put this to use in our classroom, and in our daily life. After many years of studying, experimenting with, and improving upon the techniques known to improve learning, Magnus now teaches schools, student groups and companies the methods to learn better. In his talk, he will show you some of his experiences that can be of great value in todays education, but also for our daily lives. |

Nov 11, 2014
The spring of 1775 was decisive in pushing the Thirteen Colonies from discord or open revolution. Walt Borneman's new book, AMERICAN SPRING: Lexington, Concord, and the Road to Revolution, peels back history's shorthand to debunk the myths of this time and show how quickly events moved even in the age of horseback and sail. |
